LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) is a Green Building Rating System developed by the U.S Green Building Council (USGBC). LEED provides standards for designing, constructing, and maintaining buildings in an environmentally sustainable way. Our very own Jeff Beukema, TEGG Service Consultant, is also our resident LEED Green Associate. Jeff’s passions extend beyond electrical safety and reliability. He is constantly looking for opportunities to that will help preserve our environment and benefit the community. He volunteered for the Ft. Johnson Middle School Garden and Rain Harvesting service project on Friday, 24 April 2015. He helped install a rainwater harvesting system in conjunction with a brand new garden using locally produced, recycled materials. The garden will be completed by Fort Johnson Middle School students as an educational tool and they will plant native species that require minimal water and fertilizers to thrive. LEED’s goal is to benefit the community by reducing environmental impact, optimize building performance while lowering operating cost, and creating greater asset value. Just like we always say, ‘measure twice, cut once’, property owners and managers can, with just a little forethought, make construction and maintenance decisions that will minimize any negative impact on our environment.
