What is NFPA 70E?

Often referred to as the ‘how to’ standard, the NFPA 70E is a critical interpretive link between the National Electrical Code (NEC) and OSHA standards, addressing safety and compliance. NFPA 70E is where electrical contractors -i.e.., the experts – turn to when they need information about how to comply with OSHA standards.

Why Invest in NFPA 70E Training?

#1 SAFETY

Safety is the most important reason to train employees on the 2018 NFPA 70E electrical safety standard.

Safety statistics for electrical hazards in the workplace

  • Every 30 minutes, someone is so severely injured from electricity that it requires time off the job.
  • 300 Deaths & 400 Injuries each year are caused by electrical hazards.
  • Electrical hazards are one of OSHA’s FATAL FOUR workplace violations.

Every year, arc flash accidents alone send 2,000 workers to the hospital. Arc flash events are responsible for some of the most severe on-the-job injuries; medical care for an arc flash victim often exceeds $1 million.

#2 Liability  & Accountability

NFPA 70E 2015 updates stated that ’employers are responsible for understanding and communication this information to their workforce and providing qualification training.’

NFPA 70E Qualification Training

The most recent NFPA 70E update, emphasizes on training and requires that at least some employees need to receive training on NFPA 70E and electrical safe work practices, such as risk assessment, hazard abatement, and proper use of personal protection equipment (PPE).

Workers with any routine electrical exposure risk need this training.
